About
A pianist “equally at home with Bach and with Bernstein”, Benjamin Keating is an active performer, devout collaborator, and a lifelong musician. He performs a wide variety of the classical repertoire, with a focus on music written after the turn of the 20th century. Earning first-place awards with the Schubert Club and MTNA Wisconsin competitions, the Lawrence Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition, and finalist awards at the William C. Byrd Concerto Competition, Panama City Emerging Artists Competition, and PianoArts North American Competition, he remains active in regional and national competitions.
Keating has performed with the Mostly Modern Festival, Bowdoin International Music Festival, Gijón International Piano Festival, and InterHarmony International Music Festival in Italy and at Carnegie Hall. With Hawaii Performing Arts Festival, he assisted and played rehearsals for productions of Le Nozze di Figaro and Into the Woods. Keating has also studied conducting and served as a rehearsal pianist and conductor with the Lawrence University Opera Theatre, conducting scenes from several operas, including the world premiere of the first scene of A Nearer Mother by Evan Mack.
Keating earned a Bachelor of Music from the Lawrence University Conservatory of Music, graduating summa cum laude, and is currently pursuing a Masters of Music at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, serving as a Graduate Assistant in Opera Coaching.
